About This Accommodation
Live the simple life at La Casona (or Finca Kenia Hotel) in Trinidad. This traditional home was built in the mid 1800’s and is situated less than 15 minutes by foot from the city center. The complex boasts lush gardens and a working stable with ten horses (some of the best in the region). The pool offers expansive views of the mountains and a glimpse of the ocean (in the distance). The onsite restaurant serves locally-sourced produce. Choose to dine al fresco at the garden, pool or private terrace. With only six bedrooms, enjoy an exclusive experience, encouraging you to fully absorb the surrounding beauty of Trinidad’s Santa Rosa Valley. In keeping with the style of the region, the furnishings are simple and somewhat dated (but comfortable). The rooms do feature en-suite bathrooms with modern showers, and air conditioning (!).
Novices and experts alike will enjoy exploring the valley on horseback for a slow-paced adventure through new ecosystems. Visit the surrounding sugar cane plantations or hike to rivers and waterfalls. Not a horse person? You’re not limited to horseback. City-centric activities abound. Roam the cobblestone streets to discover hole in the wall shops, galleries and local markets; or take a “City Tour” with a guide to learn about the history and cultural significance of sites such as Museo Histórico Municipal (a mansion that belonged to the Borrell family from 1827 to 1830) and Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos (the former convent of San Francisco de Asís). We highly recommend discovering the local scene through music and dance – rumba, salsa and traditional poetic singing at Palenque de los Congos Reales. Go in a completely different direction to Playa Ancon for one of our favorite (white sandy) beach experiences.
