Explora Atacama

Explora Atacama is one of the older properties in the Atacama Desert and sits in a large compound on the edge of San Pedro with great views of the surrounding area.

The hotel´s 42 acres are part of a conservation program, which aims to restore the area´s historical and scientific value. Like Alto Atacama, Explora Atacama has an in-house observatory equipped with a professional telescope, the largest of its kind in the country.

Nestled amid the starkly beautiful landscapes of salt flats, surreal rock formations, and ancient archaeological sites, this lodge offers a perfect blend of comfort and exploration. Designed with a deep respect for the environment, Explora Atacama’s architecture harmonizes seamlessly with its surroundings, allowing guests to appreciate the stark grandeur of the desert. The lodge’s experienced guides lead excursions that reveal the desert’s hidden treasures, from vibrant sunsets over the Valle de la Luna to stargazing in one of the world’s clearest night skies. Explora’s 50 rooms have a clean, modern design and are a lovely place to rest your head after long active days exploring the Atacama on one of more than 40 possible excursions. Like Alto and Tierra Atacama the activities at Explora are shared and can have up to eight people.
