About This Accommodation
Arkaba is an exclusive homestead on 60,000 acres of magnificent wilderness within the rugged Flinders Ranges. With just five bedrooms, four in the main homestead that was built in the 1850’s and one in an adjoining private stone cottage, you will soon feel like you are the privileged personal guests of managers Kat and Damien. Rooms are all slightly different, keeping their original charm while maintaining a high level of comfort. Kat is an exceptional guide and birder and Damien, the consummate host. We find this property to be particularly inviting for families, while any couple that wants extra privacy would be happy in the Coach House. Note: children under the age of 8 are welcome, but only on exclusive-use basis, so as not to disturb other guests.
Immerse yourself in the story of the bush – its ancient geology, diverse wildlife, ancient Aboriginal culture and the chance to be part of a great conservation project. Activities at Arkaba include: game drives, biking and stunning bushwalks. You can stay in the main lodge for a few days or join the fantastic Arkaba Walk - a 4-day/3-night guided bush walk (10 people max) thru Flinders Rangers that concludes at the Arkaba homestead. The scenery and guides are phenomenal and this multi-day walk is ideal for the active traveler.
Arkaba is 6 hours on the scenic route (5 hours on most direct route) or one hour flight from Adelaide or Kangaroo Island and a few hours’ drive from South Australia's finest wine regions. Pride of place at dinner is exemplified by some of the country's best local wines, which accompany the fine cuisine of the incredible chefs. This is a year-round destination that is typically dry and sunny; however, during their summer (December - March), evenings are warm, while the days can be quite hot. Conversely, their winters (June - August) are very comfortable days and occasional quite cold at night.
