Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon

This large resort caters to a mass market, so although it is not a personalized boutique experience, the location has a lot to offer active guests who want to hike around King’s Canyon.

The Kings Canyon Loop takes about 3 ½ to 4 hours to walk, with a very steep ascent at beginning. Once you get up, it is all very rough surface, but not challenging. It’s a fascinating mini Grand Canyon with lots of interesting geological formations. The soaring sandstone walls of Kings Canyon were formed when small cracks eroded over millions of years. Derived from an Aboriginal word referring to the umbrella bush that thrives here, the Luritja Aboriginal people have called the Watarrka National Park area home for more than 20,000 years. It’s definitely worth a visit, particularly for those who love desert scenery.

Kings Canyon (Watarrka National Park) is a 3.5 hour drive on tarmac road from Uluru. The resort offers daily transfers from Uluru to Kings Canyon for the Ultimate Red Center experience. Stops en route allow you to experience the culture of the Karkke indigenous community, have lunch, then go on a guided Kings Canyon Rim Walk. Overnight at Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon and travel back to Uluru the following morning in time for any connecting flights.

The resort’s Deluxe Spa rooms are located in a more remote corner with balconies that overlook the desert and beautiful rock formations. Food and services are excellent but very much aimed at the mass market. Rooms are high quality motel standard.
