Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris
Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris is all about location, location, location. In the remote Northern Territory, Davidson’s offers the perfect experience for those interested in getting off the beaten track, enjoying nature and discovering ancient rock paintings. There’s nothing especially glamorous about Davidson’s in terms of accommodation or dining, but this adventurous and sophisticated wilderness and cultural experience is enough to make it one of our favorites.
Davidson’s has 10 deluxe cabins and 10 standard cabins. The deluxe cabins are larger with a nice sitting area, while the standard rooms are perfectly adequate and slightly closer to the main area. We recommend the standard rooms for a few older kids traveling with their parents, if they didn’t want to utilize the family cabin. A deluxe cabin also works well for parents traveling with one child as they can bring in a twin bed.
We love the sense of exploration that the activities here evoke. You feel like Crocodile Dundee! You can go birdwatching, take a billabong cruise, go on a nature walk, scramble around Mount Borradaile, and our personal favorite, discover ancient aboriginal rock art strewn throughout the area. Although there isn’t an aboriginal population in the region today, the rock art dates from 200-15,000 years old. While we usually opt for a more exclusive safari experience, we actually prefer the group walks at Davidson’s, where you can stumble upon and contemplate ancient art with your new friends!
Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris is a 5-hour drive from Darwin or guests can charter a flight right to camp from Jabiru (15-minute flight for $500 each way). It’s very remote, but that’s why we love it!
