Cicada Lodge
Within the Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory, the Katherine River has carved a stunning gorge through ancient sandstone, and here you will find Cicada Lodge. It is the perfect spot for canoeing, kayaking, boating trips along the river, swimming at the base of a waterfall, and fishing. Walking trails take you through the wide valleys and scenic helicopter flights to locales, otherwise inaccessible, for romantic picnics or true adventures. Nitmiluk National Park is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people, who will serve as your guides in this ancient and culturally-significant region, pointing out interesting ancient rock art as you explore the area.
The lodge blends modern Australian design with ancient Aboriginal art. Each of the 18 rooms is air conditioned, with private verandas overlooking the wooded forests at the top of the gorge. The lodge pool is the focal point for open-sided common areas. Like most of our favorite Australian properties, the food is creative, local and a true work of art.
The best and most reliable time to visit Nitmiluk is during their dry season (May – October), which is characterized by warm and sunny days. The wet season (November – April) is dramatic and gorgeous, but road access within the park is often limited and days can be quite hot and humid.
