About This Accommodation

Bamurru Plains is located on the western border of Kakadu National Park on the Mary River Floodplains. These floodplains are truly the highlight of the experience at Bamurru, where you will have the opportunity to skim across the surface of the water on an airboat with tens of thousands of Magpie Geese, Whistling Kites, egrets, and herons flying alongside you. You will see water buffalo grazing in the shallow water with Agile Wallabies milling about the edge of the woodlands underneath the Blue-winged Kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos. Other activities include: game drives, fishing, quad biking, scenic helicopter flights, cruises on the Sampan River (April thru October) and tours to the rock art galleries of Arnhem Land. It’s a very serene wildlife experience.

The property itself consists of ten individual bungalows that are completely private and spacious. The beds are huge and comfortable. The bathrooms have a fantastic rain shower. Each bungalow has a screened porch with chairs for gazing out over the floodplains. The only downsides to the rooms are that they are not well-lit, making it hard to find things in your room at night, and they have poor air circulation, so it can get quite hot. However, the pool provides great refuge for warmer days. The management, guides, service and food are all impeccable. It’s a very relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere.

Bamurru Plains can be accessed by road from Darwin (3-hour drive) or you can charter a plane from Darwin directly to the camp, which is fast and not significantly more expensive.
