Spend eight unforgettable nights in Tanzania, combining safari wildlife experieces with repsonsible tourism engaging with local students at SEGA (Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement) with Nurturing Minds. The SEGA Girls School is a residential secondary school for bright motivated Tanzanian girls who cannot otherwise afford school due to extreme poverty. It is the perfect itinerary for anybody who wants to authentically experience a destination in a non-touristy way – and give back at the same time.
SEGA is located off the beaten path, just outside of Morogoro Town, so they rarely have visitors. They want the students to practice their English and learn more about another country and have asked us to help. This partnership ensures an incredibly authentic and one-of-a-kind cultural exchange. It’s really about talking to the kids, sharing experiences and seeing the school and the work of Nurturing Minds in action. It’s also a fundraiser! The school makes money when you stay there.
After a couple of days being immersed in SEGA School life, visiting a local village and hiking in the Uluguru mountains, fly to the remote Selous Game Reserve for your safari at Sand River Selous. This property is a luxury, fully inclusive lodge set on a rocky peninsula with views over the Rufiji River. Delight in hippos on the nearby sandbar, enjoy midday drinks by the pool, and most importantly, take in all the amazing wildlife this area has to offer (wild dogs are a specialty species here!). The Selous is Africa’s largest game park and is appreciated by safari lovers for its remoteness and opportunities to experience wildlife on foot.
