Join Kathy Eldon, founder of the Creative Visions Foundation, a global organization that supports "creative activists" who use their creative talents to change the world around them, on an unforgettable journey through Kenya. This singular, guided trip will take you through some of Kenya’s most striking regions and introduce guests to the ongoing work inspired by Kathy’s late son and photojournalist, Dan Eldon. Along the way, share film screenings of The Journey is the Destination with locals, and meet the dynamic individuals who helped shape Kathy’s vision and shared in Dan’s life. Capped at 18 travelers, this journey is a one-of-a-kind opportunity.
Begin in Nairobi, where you’ll spend two nights at House of Waine. Enjoy a special dinner hosted in the private home of one of Kathy’s colleagues, and visit the children of Cura Orphanage, sponsored by Creative Visions. During your time in the city, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet the likes of journalist and author Maryanne Fitzgerald and Lara Leakey, and friends of Dan’s still living in Kenya — individuals crucial to the development of the Creative Visions mission.
Spend your next two nights in northern Kenya, at Saruni Samburu in the private Kalama Conservancy. This rugged landscape is home to the Samburu people, whom you will get to meet and engage with during your stay. All Saruni Samburu guides are from local tribes, and can provide unique, personal insight into contemporary cultural life, traditions, and struggles. Your guide can also show you Mount Ololokwe on a trek for the active adventurer to the Samburu tribe’s sacred mountain, or explore some of the area’s caves to see the historic rock-art there. The “Warriors Academy” is another special educational opportunity where guests can learn first hand the bush skills, folklore and ancient wisdom needed to survive, gain knowledge on wildlife tracking, learn how to use bow, arrows, pangas and spears, build a bush camp, tend goats and cattle while listening to stories and songs, and so much more.
Continue to Loisaba Tented Camp, situated in Laikipia’s enormous private wilderness area with varied and beautiful landscapes to explore on drives, walks, camel and horse-back, or all-terrain vehicles. The region is especially good for spotting elephants and big cats, plus buffalo, kudu, zebra and more. The camp offers outstanding views of Mt. Kenya, and perches atop an escarpment with a watering hole below, perfect for game-viewing right from camp.
Spend your final three nights in the Masai Mara at Sand River Camp. The Mara is renowned for its spectacular game viewing and your camp is ideally situated to witness the great migration and visit with Maasai in the area. Explore the grassy plains and riverine forests of the Mara on morning and afternoon game drives, or opt to slow down and take in the area by foot with your guide. Sand River is styled after classic 1920s safari camps, but features plenty of modern comforts including a swimming pool, great for a refreshing dip between the day’s safari activities.
This is a set departure guided safari.
