Kenya: Culture & Adventure in the Plains

Highlights

Responsible tourism is built into the core of this eight night Kenya safari. Journey from trendy Nairobi to the Samburu homeland, and end in the world-renowned Masai Mara for unforgettable game viewing. From light eco-footprints to collaborative efforts with Kenyan tribes, witness some of the country’s finest offerings while supporting sustainability.

Spend your first night relaxing in style after your international flight at One Forty Eight. This boutique hotel features contemporary art alongside a lively garden to enjoy – complete with peacock, monkeys and more. Fully rested, kick off your safari in Kenya’s northern Samburulands with three nights at Saruni Samburu. Its spacious suites are built right into the natural hillside, with stunning views across the surrounding expanse of the private Kalama Conservancy. Due to its location, Saruni Samburu offers a unique array of cultural activities with the Samburu tribespeople who call this region home. To immerse yourself in Samburu culture, learn about their traditions, impressive knowledge of the area, and bushcraft survival as part of the Warrior’s Academy; trek up Mount Ololokwe with your guide to experience the Samburu’s sacred mountain and learn about its significance; come face-to-face with the ancient rock art found in local caves; or visit the nearby village of Kiltimany. This is an outstanding opportunity to interact with some of Kenya’s richest cultural traditions.

Continue to Saruni Wild, found in the heart of the Masai Mara plains. This private, three-tent camp puts you in the middle of the action, surrounded by abundant plains game. Each game drive will be led by a local Maasai guide, providing further cultural insights in addition to your wildlife viewing. Situated between private conservancies means guests also enjoy night drives through both Mara North Conservancy and Lemek Conservancy. If you want to get more active, opt to hike Kilelioni, the highest peak in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

For your last two nights, transfer to Saruni Mara, a small boutique lodge comprised of five uniquely decorated cottages. The lodge sits within the private Mara North Conservancy, nestled into a valley where you can continue maximizing game viewing on daily day and night game drives. For more culture, spend part of day visiting a local Maasai market.
