Freediving Extension

in Cape Town

Highlights

This 2-day freediving extension in Cape Town is the perfect addition to a safari or city experience. Experience a mini 'marine safari' and reconnect with yourself and the natural world around you with freediving experts Hanli Prinsloo and Peter Marshall.

On your first day, meet up with Hanli and Peter, co-founders of I AM WATER Foundation, to greet the day with a morning yoga session. They will introduce the 'art of freediving', practice breathing techniques and discuss the theory behind this unique way of experiencing the water. Then, it is time to take the plunge! Your first introductory dive takes place in a protected cove where a kelp forest is home to tons of marine life. Fall under the spell of the meditative practice of freediving and the water’s mysterious beauty as you practice the skills you have learned. In the afternoon, rinse off and enjoy a drink on the beach. Assess your first dive over a privately catered picnic buffet. Relax in the sand and soak in the sights and sounds of the ocean above the waves. Later, return to the water to swim with seals, cow sharks and/or penguins. In the evening, join Hanli and Peter at one of their favorite local restaurants for dinner.

Your second day begins with an early morning Cape Peninsula tour. But this is no normal Cape Peninsula tour. Rather, explore the peninsula like never before...underwater. After the tour, recenter with a round of morning yoga. Return to the waves for encounters with Blue Sharks; or (depending on the weather) an excursion to Cape Point and Hout Bay to swim with seals, dolphins, whales and sunfish. After another day of exploring Cape Town’s highlights from beneath the surface, enjoy a private dinner and recall your top marine safari stories. It is truly an awe-inspiring wildlife experience.

*Please note: This extension can be arranged to exclude shark encounters, at additional cost, according to your preferences and comfort level.

All of your days follow a rhythm conducive to optimal freediving, yoga and relaxation experiences. However, the schedule is weather dependent as the wind and swell will be decisive for which of the dives you do every day as your safety and wellbeing is our top priority.

Moreover, all actions are guided by the highest standards of responsible marine megafauna interaction. The animals’ wellbeing is a priority at all times. Should the I AM WATER team get the impression that your presence (in or out of water) stresses or disturbs the animal, they will distance you immediately even if this might limit your interaction with the animal(s).
