Cruising on Lake Kariba is a unique and memorable experience where no two days are the same. Activities which are many and varied include game viewing from the houseboat or tender boats, exciting fishing for Tiger and bream, phenomenal birding as well as a cultural visit to a remote Tonga fishing village. The serene calm of early morning and the dramatic sunsets for which Kariba is famous provide amazing photographic opportunities.
The most exclusive option right now is spending 3 nights on the Matusadona which has been described as “an intimate luxury lodge on the water”. With a length of 28.6 meters, a beam of 6.85, powered by two reliable 420 hp diesel motors, Matusadona is made up of three elegantly furnished decks with hardwood finishes and rich, classic fabrics. The lower accommodation deck provides guests with three en-suite, cabins, each tastefully decorated, made up with a queen size bed and cotton percale linens, offering air conditioning and mosquito proof portholes. The central air-conditioned Saloon Deck comprises a spacious lounge, indoor and outdoor dining areas, the gourmet galley and the wheelhouse. The Upper Deck, perhaps the most popular of all, provides a sociable bar, comfortable seating areas, al-fresco dining, and a refreshing jacuzzi, all with panoramic views across the lake to distant horizons.
Open on all sides, the views of the lake and the bordering mountains are evocative and expansive. You'll spot hippos, crocs and elephant from the boat, and take out tender boats to access some of the smaller inlets and fjords, which house incredible trees and antelope. Routes are planned on a personal booking basis, and three nights is the recommended length of time to get maximum enjoyment from the experience.
