To say that Dr. Laurie Marker is obsessed with cheetahs would be an understatement. Dr. Marker has been working with cheetahs since 1974. She is the Founder and Executive Director of The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), the longest-running cheetah conservation program in the world.
To say that Extraordinary Journeys is obsessed with Namibia would be an understatement. When you’re there, you feel like you’re on the moon! There’s nothing anywhere on the globe that offers the immense diversity of ancient history, landscapes, incredible flora and fauna, all mixed with ever-changing colors as the sun moves shadows across the land. A safe and people-friendly country, tailored safari affords you the opportunity to experience much of the best of magnificent and varied Namibia.
With so many fabulous places to see and the chance to combine two obsessions, it was too hard to pick just one itinerary… so we picked two: a 7-day private guided safari and 11-day fly-in safari. Both itineraries center on the opening of CCF’s brand new Cheetah View Lodge as well as close encounters with cheetahs including stretching their legs on CCF’s lure course, feeding and meeting with Ambassador Cheetahs Kaijay, Peter, Senay and Tiger Lily and sundowners while cheetahs walk amongst you.
The 11-day fly-in safari begins with an overnight at The Olive Exclusive in Windhoek before two nights at CCF. After your close encounters with the conservation foundation, depart for two nights at Onguma Tented Camp in Etosha National Park for exciting game drives. Fly from Eastern to Southern Etosha National Park Boundary for one night at Ongava Lodge. Then continue to Mowani Mountain Camp in Damaraland, where you will walk amongst pre-historic rock art at the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Twyfelfontein and track for desert-adapted elephants in ephemeral river systems. Land at the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Africa’s largest private nature reserve, to eco-quad bike through the giant sand dunes and climb some of the world’s highest freestanding sand dunes. Make sure to spend an evening with an astronomer learning all about the southern hemisphere’s night sky. We promise you this: you’ve never seen anything like it.
