About This Accommodation
Set on the outskirts of Matobo Hills National Park, Big Cave Camp is a 45-minute drive from the Bulawayo Airport. Matobo Hills is best known for being a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its sprawling granite landscape and over 2000 San (Bushman) rock art sites. Matobo Hills is an area of great spiritual, cultural, and historical significance and Big Cave Camp certainly incorporates these themes into their design. Its 8 granite-under-thatch suites are built in and around massive granite boulders. The suites are spacious with their own private verandahs and en-suite bathrooms. The suites accommodate for singles, doubles, triples, and families. There is a cave-like fire pit in the common area which is great for mingling and drinks after dinner.
Big Cave Camp is not a prime wildlife-viewing destination. They do have the southern white rhino which can be quite special, and you can arrange to bring a ranger on your game drive which means you can get out of the vehicle and walk around. This element; in addition to hiking, mountain biking, and viewing the cave paintings; makes this a good property for active people who are looking to stretch their legs on safari. It’s a great place to add history and culture to your safari and a well-priced option for families.
