About This Accommodation
Tongabezi is, without a doubt, one of our favorite properties in Livingstone. It is one of Zambia’s most exclusive lodges with its gorgeous and quirky style, excellent service, and a wealth of activities. It was built in the 90s by two Englishmen as a unique eco-stylish property long before other properties began to replicate this style.
It offers a variety of stone and thatch accommodation from cottages – more enclosed and secure – to houses – more open to the elements. The cottages are geared toward those who are less comfortable being exposed, with the walls being more enclosed and netting over the windows. The houses are individually decorated with innovative touches such as plunge pools, private dining decks, and unique themes. A larger house is set away from the river in a secluded location which is ideal for a family unit. For larger families we recommend staying at nearby Tangala which is the home of the owner of Tongabezi. We prefer the houses because we find them a lot more interesting than the cottages. Everything from the bathroom tiles and light fixtures to the textiles are just so thoughtful and fun. The Tree House and Nut House are our personal favorites for their unique little touches, but you really can't go wrong.
Tongabezi’s main areas are thatched and meals (which are phenomenal) are served in the dining room, on the wooden decks, or even floating on the Zambezi River. We love the tranquil surrounds, private river-facing views, and all the activities available at no extra cost, like canoeing, river cruises, walks, and a visit to the Falls.
At one point in time, we felt the service had slightly declined, but recent investments and major refurbishments have helped it remain of the better options in the area. We recommend at least three nights.
