We love Livingstone for its all of the activities offered around Victoria Falls. Livingstone offers white-water rafting on class 5 rapids, bungee jumping, canoeing and sunset cruises on the Zambezi River. A micro light or helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls is another amazing way to experience this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A visit to Livingstone for 1-3 nights is a common add-on to a southern Africa itinerary and is easy to do from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. It can also be combined with East Africa but the flight connections are not quite as easy.

There are numerous accommodation options in Livingstone, that with something to fit any budget and travel style. Some of our favorites are Royal Livingstone (for its proxmity to the falls), Waterberry (great value for money), Islands of Siankaba (a more luxury option in a very unique setting) and Tangala House for exclusive use.

Livingstone is a year round destination, although the water levels of the Zambezi can be a consideration when planning a trip and deciding whether or not to stay in Livingstone or on the Zimbabwe side in the town of Victoria Falls. Between August and December water levels in the Zambezi are lower and may make the Zimbabwe side (staying at Victoria Falls) a better option because you are closer to the falls. However once water levels increase (May-July) the Zambia side is a better option because the spray and mist on the Zimbabwe side can be overwhelming. There are a few signature activities, like swimming in Devil's Pool at the edge of the falls that are only available on the Livingstone side and only when water levels are low, between roughly late August and early January each year.

All of that said, Livingstone and Victoria Falls are less than an hour and a quick stop at immigration apart and it is easy to visit and do activities on either side of the falls no matter where you are staying.
