Lush and scenic, you can enjoy hours trekking through Kibale in search of the chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, while being enthralled by its incredible bird-life. Kibale is our favorite place in Uganda for Chimp Trekking and while sightings aren’t guaranteed, they are better than 95 percent. In addition, the hiking is significantly easier than gorilla trekking in Bwindi, allowing you to enjoy and take in your forest surroundings.

We highly recommend the chimp habituation experience while here – it is an opportunity chimpanzee lovers will find truly memorable. Hang out with the primates for the day observing these animals while picking up field and research skills from your knowledgeable guides.

Guided walks through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary offer incredible bird and butterfly sightings, this trail is sought after by serious bird watchers throughout the world.

Cultural and farm walks provide insight into the area’s vanilla and coffee plantations and lunch at Tinka’s House is a charming opportunity for visitors to enjoy a local Ugandan meal while being welcomed into the home of a community leader.

Our favorite properties in the Kibale/Fort Portal area are Ndali Lodge and Primate Lodge
