Chameleon Hill Lodge

Chameleon Hill Lodge sits in the lush hills surrounding Lake Mutanda in Uganda. Found between Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the Virunga Mountains, this is a region of forested mountain slopes and wetland ecosystems.

The colorful and eclectic Chameleon Hill Lodge comprises ten chalets, all with expansive views across the lake. Each has been individually furnished with handmade Euro-African style items, features a unique color scheme, and queen or twin beds. Common areas include a wooden deck, modern lounge with fireplace, and library.

We especially love the delicious meals prepped by the lodge’s chefs with local produce, herbs, and spices, whether setting off for a trek with a tastefully crafted breakfast or returning from a day of activity. While not everyone will like the bright, bold colors and unique character of this lodge, it’s a great offbeat option for a one-of-a-kind stay.

During your stay, track mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, take to the water for boating excursions, or get to know local families and communities with immersive cultural activities. Plenty of hiking is available outside of gorilla treks, too, for the active traveler. Discover hidden ancient caves, secluded waterfalls, through sorghum fields and local homesteads as you hear stories of the Batwa people and their traditions.
