About This Accommodation

The Manta Resort is located on Pemba Island, just off the coast of Tanzania. The island’s interior is characterized by gradual hills and valleys, rainforests, lagoons and mangroves surrounded by pristine seas. Unlike other tropical island destinations, Pemba feels relatively untouched – the island’s inhabitants are warm and welcoming, and the wilderness remains wild and pristine.

This is the place to escape and unplug from the outside world. Refresh amid sunshine and saltwater. Lounge by the pool or stroll along white sand beaches. The experience at Pemba is luxuriously simple, and yet, you are surrounded by all the creature comforts and more. For a truly unique experience, spend a night in Manta’s underwater room. The room is built onto a floating platform, like a small island unto itself. The upper deck sits at water level making it the ultimate lounge pad. Below the waves, the glass-paned bedroom submerges you in Pemba’s magical marine life. This is sure to be an unforgettable night. Other accommodation options include seafront villas and garden rooms, all of which feature open-plan designs, four-poster beds and en-suite facilities. Each room is a mix of traditional décor and modern luxuries crafted by locals.

Apart from the underwater room, most experiences lie just outside the door. Venture out to the white coral sandbank, exposed at low tide, or explore the Ngezi Rainforest to gain an authentic appreciation for the flavors of the island on a spice tour with locals. For more local experiences, sail on a traditional Ngalawa for a sunset cruise captained by a local fisherman or scuba dive/snorkel to see the underwater ecosystems up close and personal. Kayaking, surfing, biking and fishing can also be arranged.
