Perched atop the Olmoti crater, The Highlands offers sweeping views all the way to the Serengeti. While the remote camp is carefully positioned for maximum privacy, the famous Ngorongoro Crater is fairly easily accessible from camp. The inspiration for the eight canvas geodesic domed suites draws from the traditional Maasai bomas that dot the landscape. Each suite offers king-sized beds (that can be converted to two single beds) with floor-to-canvas-ceiling bay windows opening out to the spectacular views – some suites have a mezzanine available for a third bed – and en-suite bathrooms with separate flush toilet and double-headed plumbed shower. Each tent also has a wood burning fireplace and plenty of cozy blankets and rugs for warmth in the colder months.

On top of game drives and incredible wildlife encounters, The Highlands offers a range of other activities including world-class hiking. The Olmoti climb starts directly from camp, following an ancient Maasai cattle trail through mountain forest, grasslands and rocky outcrops. At the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the crater. The Highlands is one of the only camps that gives you the opportunity to make the half-day excursion to Empakaai crater accompanied by an NCA ranger and descending to the sparkling soda lake on the crater floor, famous for the pink flamingos that congregate on its shores.

Community and cultural visits with the local Maasai in one of the neighboring villages is possible year-round and school visits may be possible depending on the time of year.
