About This Accommodation

Built high on the edge of Tanzania's , the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge offers spectacular views of the world heritage site, famous for its abundance of wildlife. Built from local river stone and covered in indigenous vines, this structure is unobtrusive and even invisible from the crater floor. The lodge has excellent access to the crater and Lake Manyara and the views are incredible.

Décor is an interesting mix of stone, volcanic boulders, wall-lanterns, and ethnic artifacts. Rooms are simple with good amenities. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is geared towards those looking for a less adventurous safari option and is recommended for groups, families, and guests looking for comfort and safety. The crater offers great game viewing, but doesn’t feel very wild as it can get extremely crowded during the peak seasons of July to September and December to February. We find that the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge mirrors that experience; it is a nice property with high service standards, but it is a larger hotel which makes it feel impersonal.

Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is a year-round destination, although we wouldn’t recommend it during April and May as they are the rainy months.
