Rubondo Island Camp

Rubondo Island Camp, in the southwest corner of Lake Victoria, is a unique wilderness experience and perfect for travelers seeking an off-the-beaten path destination to add to their safari. The waters of Lake Victoria teem with hippo, crocodile and Nile perch. The island’s indigenous rainforest is home to plentiful birdlife, a herd of island elephants and even chimpanzees (chimp sightings are not as guaranteed as they are at Greystoke Mahale or in Kibale Forest National Park in Uganda).

The camp is the only property on Rubondo Island, offering a truly exclusive experience to guests staying in one of just eight lakefront, eco-friendly chalets. Days on Rubondo Island are filled with bush walks, visits to local villages, catch-and-release fishing, treehouse sleepouts or just relaxing by the pool. While Rudondo is definitely not a classic, big-five safari destination, the peaceful setting and the variety of activities will make your time on Rubundo a welcome break from days spent on game-drives.
