Royal Malewane

Royal Malewane, located in the Thornybush Reserve bordering Kruger National Park, is a luxurious property which caters to a discerning clientele in search of a traditional safari.

The lodge is stunning, with superb service and attention to detail. It seems to be more geared towards mature guests, so a younger traveler may be happier at Singita. Each room is refined and colonial in style, with a fireplace, wooden furnishings, a Victorian bath, and outdoor shower. The deck boasts its own plunge pool from which to monitor the tranquil surroundings and gorgeous views.

The concession is quite overgrown and bushy, making game viewing a little trickier. Despite this you see excellent wildlife while on game drives. The downside is that this is a fenced reserve and is on the small side – a number of lodges lead off from the main road, so you are conscious of size.

This is a truly genteel safari – exquisite food, opulent luxury, and unfailingly polite service. The spa is one of the best you will find and the game viewing is top draw. It also has the unusual distinction of having a full kosher kitchen.

We find Royal Malewane very impressive and a good honeymoon property, but it may be a little too formal for some.
