About This Accommodation
This area is the hiking mecca of the Atlas Mountains. Toubkal is the highest peak at 14,000 ft. It takes two days to get there. You normally leave early in the morning, spend the night at a base camp and summit at around 3 am. There are two camps on the top including a hostel that offers private rooms but with a shared bathroom. People do it all year, but you need crampons in the winter.
You can camp in the small field of a villager some 3 to 5 miles from Kasbah du Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains south of Marrakech. Along the way, find a nice spot to stop for lunch for incredibly fresh salads and meats. Muleteers, a cook and a guide will make the experience seamless and setup camp when you arrive at your final destination. Enjoy dinner by a roaring fire under a starry sky you won't believe. It gets cold in the desert when the sunsets, so warm clothes and layers are important. This program allows for a lot of flexibility. Let the guide know your speed – easy, medium or hard – and they can accommodate you.
Tipping can be brutal if you’re doing a camping trek. It can run to 100% of your cost if you’re not careful. You don't need too many porters to carry your gear.. it can cost a fortune in tips. Instead, just hire one muleteer, a guide, and cook for your tour.
There are also a number of lodges in the area that you can use to create a trekking circuit.
