Sabuk Lodge

Set in the rugged terrain of the northern Laikipia Plateau, Sabuk Lodge overlooks the Ewaso Nyiro River from a cliff-side perch. The lodge is comprised of six en-suite, open-fronted stone and thatch cottages with private decks to enjoy the views of the river. The Eagle Cottage is ideal for families, with its own mess and dining area, plus private plunge pool.

We love this lodge precisely because it gets you so close to nature. Rooms are partially open to the outdoors, with great opportunity to “armchair” game-view even when you need to take a rest between activities. While we love it, Sabuk is not a great fit for travelers who want to feel more protected from the elements.

Activities are a big focus here and, in addition to game drives, Samburu guides lead bush walks, and local village visits can be easily arranged to learn more about the Samburu’s pastoralist lifestyle and history. Guests may also opt to take out some of the lodge’s Somali ponies for a morning or evening ride, or disappear for a night on a fly-camping excursion – perhaps by camelback.
