About This Accommodation

Umani Springs is a small luxury bush home at the eastern foot of the Chyulu Hills within Kibwezi Forest. This conservation area is an ancient groundwater forest known for its wealth of butterflies and pristine springs. The property belongs to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and is primarily reserved for DSWT elephant orphan “foster parents.” The camp was designed to facilitate personal, educational visits for foster parents to see their orphans (or ex-orphans) after they leave the Nairobi nursery and come to the Tsavo conservation area for their reintroduction process into the wild. During their stay, visitors can tour the orphans' stockades, watch their midday mud-bath, feedings, and more.

The property sleeps ten people total in three contemporary styled, raised bedroom unites each with queen or twin beds. All units also feature private verandas, open-air en-suite bathrooms, and personal lounge areas. The communal living and dining rooms feature French doors, a contemporary bar, and open design. Hot water and electricity is solar heated. Do note that Umani Springs is a self-catering facility. EJ can arrange all food and drink for the duration of your stay.

Surrounding the lodge are lush grounds with two waterholes and a salt lick which frequently draws elephants, birdlife, birdlife, etc. Be sure to take time to relax in the natural spring-fed swimming pool, admire the array of flora around the property, or take up a game of badminton, croquet, or volleyball. Additional activities include nature and game drives through Kibwezi Forest, guided forest walks, and hiking.
