The Plight of the Elephants: The Battle Isn’t Won, As a luxury travel company primarily focused on wildlife experiences in Africa, we are disheartened to hear that the Trump Administration has lifted the ban, yet again, on elephant trophy imports into the U.S. The ban was put into place to help in the battle against poached ivory. If there is no market for ivory and if ivory cannot be legally imported into countries outside Africa, the price for illegally poached ivory will go down and the slaughter of elephants will end. Most European countries and now even China have banned the importation of ivory because it is impossible to prevent poached ivory from being imported and sold under the cover of legal licenses.

If you would like to add your voice to help save elephants, please send a letter (see below a copy of a sample letter) to your local Senator as well as your Congressman/woman who hold the purse strings to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services/Interior Department’s annual budget. Heads up, each state has two senators (find yours here). We encourage you to mail a hard copy of the letter as well as an electronic version. Thank you for helping us continue the good fight!

STARTER LETTER TO YOUR SENATORS:

Dear Senator,

I am saddened that the Trump Administration has lifted the ban, yet again, on elephant trophy imports into the U.S. The hunting industry generates very little money compared to the conservation and photography tourism sector and, sadly, these figures are often lumped together as “tourism.” I am writing to you directly to voice my personal objection to the lifting of the ban and encourage you to take a similar stand.

Sincerely,
