The New Duma Tau

Duma Tau, which means "roar of the lion" is one of our favorite camps in the Linyanti/Savute area of Botswana. Duma Tau recently moved locations and underwent extensive re-design. It is almost ready to re-open and they sent out some great photos of the changes that have been made. Here are a few pictures of the new d├ęcor and the amazing location for the new Duma Tau. Another amazing feat will be to see how quickly nature reclaims the old Duma Tau site demonstrating Wilderness Safaris' eco-friendly approach to lodge building.

About Linyanti: The Linyanti Reserve is 308,880 acres of wild and diverse countryside. Its acacia and mopane forests sustain large numbers of elephants in the winter months while the Savuti area is famous for its lions, documented in National Geographic films. While elephants are one of the area's biggest attractions, red lechwe, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, sable, roan, eland, giraffe, baboon, monkey, warthog, crocodile and buffalo also abound. Predators include lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena. On night game drives look for bushbabies, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, genet, pangolin and the smaller predators.

About Duma Tau: Duma Tau Camp is perfect base from which to view the wide range of species which call the Linyant home. Day and night game drives give guests the chance to take in the landscape and see a huge number of animals. Nature walks allow for closer inspection of some of the smaller creatures, while the camp's pontoon boat provides access to the Linyanti River and a different perspective on animals as they come to the river to drink. One of the most exciting things to do here is to wait in the hides, where you can view and photograph animals at close range without disturbing them. The camp itself is built under a shady grove of mangosteen trees overlooking a hippo-filled lagoon within. Its large, luxurious rooms are raised off the ground on polished wooden decks. They are set under thatch with canvas walls, inviting you to enjoy the night sounds of Africa from the comfort of your bed. Bathrooms are en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers. Common areas include a dining room, living room, bar area and plunge pool on a raised on wooden deck with fabulous views.

Overnights at the Duma Tau Camp. Includes: All meals, beverages (except premium brands), game viewing activities, laundry, and transfers.
