6 nights/7 days $4800 per person in Kenya
Offbeat Mara mid-season rates have been extended from 1st July - 2nd January 2013. We recommend 3 nights at Sosian and 3 nights in the Masai Mara for $4800 per person. This is a great choice for the adventurous person who wants to mix traditional and horseback safaris.
****This itinerary is still avaiable. Prices will be slightly higher than 2013 but the program is still excellent value for money****
Days 1 / 2 / 3 ~ Laikipia ~ Sosian
You will be picked up at the international airport in Nairobi and transferred to Wilson Airport to board a chartered flight to Sosian where your guide will be waiting at the airstrip to drive you to the lodge.
As your plane climbs away from Nairobi, you’ll see the Aberdare Mountains creating the escarpment to the Great Rift Valley. The eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley, known as the Laikipia Plateau, is divided into a patchwork of enormous ranches. They cover a wide range of landscapes, with high plains and low-forested valleys. Within this beautiful wilderness protected game roams freely. This area has become a sanctuary for elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and a wealth of plains game, including many endemic northern species.
Sosian is a 24,000 acre private ranch in the heart of Laikipia, a vast expanse of wilderness in the heart of Kenya’s highlands and home to a huge diversity of mammals and birds. The ranch house was built in the 1940’s by Italian artisans, and in recent years was beautifully restored to accommodate up to 14 people in the atmosphere of a private home, now known as Sosian Lodge. 7 cottages lie in the tropical garden overlooking Mt. Kenya and miles of unspoilt Africa, each with its own private verandah and ensuite bathroom; the lodge has a swimming pool, tennis court, and organic vegetable garden. During your stay you can indulge your adventurous side by taking part in the activities that are offered including game drives, fly camping, river activities such as tubing, horse and camel back safaris, birding, fishing, and cattle ranching.

Days 4 / 5 / 6 ~ Maasai Mara ~ Offbeat Mara Camp
Today you will drive to Nakuru for your flight to the Maasai Mara. Upon arrival you will be picked up by your guide/driver and taken to Offbeat Mara
The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most famous nature reserve, and one of the settings for the film Out of Africa. It is classic savannah – grasslands, where animals are plentiful and the vistas spectacular. In this dreamlike land, animals live in freedom, and the Maasai tend their cattle. The area, also known as the “Jewel of Africa,” has one of the largest and the most spectacular animal migrations in the world. The reserve is known for its large wildlife, including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo.
There are also over 500 resident species of birds in the park including ostrich, lark and sunbird. The reserve which covers an area of 700 square miles forms part of the Serengeti ecosystem and hosts the world famous spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores from the Serengeti plains, following the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, laggard and sick will fall prey to predators and many more will die in the swirling flood waters of the Mara River as they try to cross it. Whether you’re in the Maasai Mara during migration time, your wildlife viewing will be spectacular, as the resident population of zebra and wildebeest will be there, along with the predators.
The camp's location is on the Olare Orok which cuts through the centre of the Mara North Conservancy, a vivid swathe of green that allows a marvelous habitat for Game. The camp, composed of 6 traditional safari tents, sleeps just 12 guests. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with hot bucket showers, wash basins and a flushing toilet. The tents are all furnished with large, handmade cedar beds, 24hour solar lighting and high quality linen. Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or around the campfire.
