Nomad Experiences at Ol Malo

Get off grid via helicopter

Helicopter outings are becoming increasingly popular among travelers. While it might sound like just another way to look at nice scenery, our team has really fallen in love with these experiences. Rather than just a “spectator sport,” exploring a region by helicopter feels incredibly engaging, with opportunities to stop in otherwise inaccessible destinations, explore on foot, and then return to the skies.

Ol Malo’s snug Raven R44 can hold up to three passengers at a time, plus pilot. This makes it perfect for sharing with one or two special people. It is possible to cater to larger groups as well though, with three helicopters at their disposal. The only downside to taking them all out? Not everyone will get to fly with Andrew, experienced pilot and part of the Francombe family! Our team loves his passion and excitement for flying - it's absolutely contagious. (Of course, whoever you fly with, you'll be in excellent hands.)

Relaxing in Kenya's most remote areas.

While we’re big fans of the freedom and thrill of helicopter flight – side windows opened up to maximize the breathtaking views below – we understand heights aren’t for everyone. Don’t worry. Ol Malo has plenty of adventure options that keep your feet firmly planted, or at least closer to the ground.

Journey by foot with the Samburu

For the land-based intrepid nomads, Ol Malo can tailor mobile “nomad” experiences guided by local Samburu. This allows you a more intimate opportunity to speak with your Samburu guide about their life and cultural background, while also supporting the mission of the Samburu Trust, and exploring the valleys, mountains, and painted deserts of this striking region. Few travel here, and fewer still venture beyond a vehicle’s access. Explore this area’s rugged and enchanting terrain by foot, walking-safari style, with camels, or by horseback. Homebred ponies can carry you through harsh rocky outcrops and cool acacia lined riverbeds, all home to the Samburu people.
