Incredible Deal in Botswana

Green Season in Botswana and much of Southern Africa is a lush, green, less crowded time of year (running roughly Nov. to March each year). The abundant greenery means lot of new babies for grazing animals and all the predator activity that follows. It is an excellent season for birding and a time when great deals can be found! Sometimes as much as 50% less than other seasons! Below is a fabulous itinerary the covers the highlights of Botswana, from the Linyanti to the Okavango to the Kalahari (which is actually best in the Green Season). Travelers are able to stay at luxurious properties at an incredible price only possible during this beautiful time of year.

Itinerary Summary

Days 1-3: Kings Pool - The Linyanti

Days 3-5: Xigera Camp - Okavango Delta

Days 5-8: Vumbura Plains Camp - Okavango Delta

Days 8-11: Kalahari Plains Camp - Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Days 1-3: Kings Pool - The Linyanti

After landing in Maun, Botswana you will to Kings Pool in the Linyanti, northeast of the Okavango Delta.

Located in a private reserve in the Linyanti / Savuti Channel area in the northern part of Botswana, Kings Pool is near the western boundary of Chobe National Park. The source of the Savuti Channel is within this private reserve. The camp overlooks the oxbow-shaped Kings Pool Lagoon and the Linyanti River to the north. The area has a large wildlife resource with a wide variety of species, but it is most noted for its very large elephant populations. There are ample populations of impala, lechwe, kudu, zebra, giraffe, sable, waterbuck, buffalo and the smaller plains antelope resident in the area year-round as well as the major predators; lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena. The reed and papyrus swamps are ideal for numerous and diverse species of birds.

The camp itself is stylish and elegant. Rooms have their own verandahs, private plunge pools and outdoor showers - all overlooking the spectacular landscape. Expansive main areas offer comfort and beauty and boma dinners are served under the stars and around a camp fire. A gym is available to work off the gourmet meals.

Days 3-5: Xigera Camp - Okavango Delta

You will fly from Kings Pool into the heart of the Okavango Delta to Xigera Camp.

Xigera Camp is set in the heart of the Okavango Delta on Paradise Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve. Xigera consists of ten luxuriously furnished walk-in tented rooms, each with en-suite facilities and outdoor showers. All rooms are raised off the ground and are built within a shady grove offering superb views of the floodplain to the east of camp and its attractive waterhole that is frequently visited by lechwe. Meals and drinks are enjoyed under the thatch of the raised lounge, pub and dining area overlooking a permanently flowing channel. A traditional boma offers alternative dining under the African stars. Wooden walkways wind through the forest connecting the rooms to the main area. There is a plunge pool for cooling off and relaxation.

Xigera is a "water camp" designed to help you get up close and personal with the Okavango's unique eco-system. Activities focus mainly on mokoro rides through the quiet waterways, as well as short walking safaris. Enjoy a true Delta experience while you sit back in a mokoro (dugout canoe) and silently glide through the tranquil Okavango waterways or watch the sunset and birds gliding home to roost from a motorboat on the Xigera Lagoon. You may get lucky enough to get good views of the elusive sitatunga antelope along the way – with its webbed feet, the sitatunga seems to walk on water and this area has the highest density found anywhere in the Okavango Delta. Birding in the area is excellent as well.

Days 5-8: Vumbura Plains Camp - Okavango Delta

From Xigera Camp you will fly to Vumbura Plains, in one of the best game viewing areas in all of Botswana.

Vumbura Plains has some of the best game viewing in all of Botswana with a large mix of big game, predator, prey and birdlife. It’s located in the Kwedi Concession on the border between the Okavango and Linyanti/Selinda region, a mixed landscape where guests can quietly mokoro through lily pads and reeds or drive through dry plains. This is a good option for someone staying at just one camp in the Delta because it offers both land and water activities.

Sleek, sophisticated, and designed with glass and wood, each room has stunning views, a big sunken living room, a sala, outdoor shower, private deck, and plunge pool. And the rooms are huge! The suites are divided into two camps with 8 suites comprising the North Camp and 6 in the South Camp. All of the suites are similar, but we prefer the South Camp as it feels slightly more intimate. Sitting around a camp fire while listening to the night sounds and watching the sunset at the end of the day is the perfect way to unwind.

Days 8-11: Kalahari Plains Camp - Central Kalahari Game Reserve

You depart the lush Delta and fly south to the Kalahari Desert which is in bloom in this green season. Green Season is in fact the best time of year to visit this part of Botswana.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is one of the largest reserves in southern Africa; with stunning semi-arid desert scenery, endless horizons, and diverse wildlife. In the wetter season, between December and April, this area consists of flat grassy plains, teaming with flowers, birds, insects and offers some of the best game viewing in Botswana. Large herds of gemsbok and springbok as well as wildebeest, hartebeest, eland, and giraffe are prominent. Predators are plentiful with cheetah, leopard, jackal, and the famous Kalahari black-maned lion on the prowl. Brown hyenas, bat eared foxes, honey badger and wild dogs also abound. From May to November, the dry season months, the CKGR becomes a harsh and dusty environment and many animals migrate away in search of water.

The Central Kalahari is also home to the San Bushmen and Kalahari Plains Camp offers the chance to visit with and learn from local communities.Elevated to maximize views over the Kalahari and encourage a breeze, the camp has simple but tasteful rooms, star-beds and a swimming pool and runs on solar power.
