The resident game population includes 360 species of birds and more than 40 mammal species including lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros. The area is also home to the famous White Lions of Timbavati.
Motswari Game Lodge is an exclusive family-owned lodge in operation since 1980 and known for its strong conservation and community values, hence the Tswana name Motwari, meaning 'to conserve and protect. The bar area flows out to the deck and to the natural rock-lined pool with views of the nearby river bed and plains. The fifteen thatched bungalows are constructed in the rondavel style, with double doors opening to patios revealing scenic views of the African bush and the river.
Days 8 /9 ~ Ilala Lodge ~ Victoria Falls
Today you will fly to Zimbabwe. Upon your arrival you will be welcomed by a representative at the airport who will transfer you to Ilala Lodge.
Twice the size of Niagara Falls, it’s no surprise that Victoria Falls are among the Seven Wonders of the World. Mosi-oa-Tunya – The Smoke that Thunders – derived from the towering column of spray when the Zambezi River runs high, is the name that the local people have given to this awesome natural phenomenon. The name is probably more appropriate and descriptive than "Victoria", but Dr. David Livingstone followed established custom in 1855 when he named the falls after his queen. Five separate falls make up this incredible spectacle that plunges more than 328 feet into a sheer-sided chasm, which separates Zimbabwe from Zambia. A 1905 Edwardian bridge spans the awe-inspiring abyss, linking the two countries and providing a platform that many adventurers now use to bungee jump.
Ilala Lodge is situated in the center of Victoria Falls town and is actually the closet hotel to the Falls. The Palm a la Carte Restaurant has a cozy indoor section under thatch, with deep cottage pain windows and wide double doors opening out to the patio, for shaded el fresco dining. This outdoor area extends along the rounded front of the building, to a social pool bar and lounge, with the inviting pool discretely set to the side.
The activities desk can assist you with travel arrangements, transfers and any additional activities, and the hotel is within easy walking distance of the town and the Falls. The National Park borders the front of the property, so you may well see wild animals grazing on the hotel lawns with the spray of the falls in the background.
